Elizabeth Hurley has some crucial advice for breast cancer prevention. During a recent Breast Cancer Research Foundation event in New York City, the 58-year-old actress, advocate, and swimwear designer stressed the importance of getting regular screenings and early detection.

“I think the best advice is to familiarize yourself with your own breasts and to go to your doctor if you think there any changes or if anything feels a little different,” Hurley told Flow Space. “Once you’re of the right age, have regular mammograms.”

For nearly thirty years, Hurley has served as a global ambassador for the Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign, dedicated to empowering women’s health and advocating for breast cancer awareness. With a personal connection to the cause, having lost her grandmother to the disease in 1995, Hurley recognizes the significance of educating people about the disease. Through her partnership with Estée Lauder, Hurley has passionately championed the cause, leveraging her platform to inspire others to join the fight against breast cancer and make a meaningful impact in the lives of women worldwide.

“I think all women need to know that if breast cancer is found early and it’s still localized, there’s a very very good chance of survival,” Hurley says. “But, if you leave something, or [are] scared to go to the doctor, scared to get your mammogram, then the prognosis isn’t so good.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the U.S, accounting for about 30 percent of all new female cancers each year, according to the American Cancer Society. Half of women who develop breast cancer are 62 years of age or younger when they are diagnosed.

When asked how her health routine has changed from when she was younger, Hurley — who shared she’s always lived a pretty healthy lifestyle — says she just focuses on doing what’s always worked for her.

“I’ve always tried to eat very healthy. I’ve always tried to stay very active. I’ve always tried to look after my skin and hair. I’ve always put health first and everything I try to do is try to stay healthy. We can’t all succeed but we try.”

One thing Hurley is no longer tolerating as she gets older is going out. When reflecting on her past, she acknowledged that she didn’t fully appreciate the comfort of her home and the importance of spending time with family. Now, she’s actively reshaping her priorities to prioritize quality time with loved ones.

“I like spending time with them. I like spending as much time I can with my real friends. Of course I do go out, but I probably go out less and I probably have a better quality of life by doing so.”
